Short Circuit Minimization

I do quite a bit of snorkeling and have one OtterBox that I put my ID, a bit of cash and other odds and ends. They now have waterproof boxes made specifically for most electronic devices...your cell phones, MP3 players, etc. (http://www.otterbox.com/). These boxes are good for around the pool, at the beach or in any environment where you could easily end up damaging your device with water, sand, mud, etc.

Teamwork the Web 2.0 Way

Web 2.0 is providing better options when it comes to teamwork. There are several sites that allow you to collaborate and share information that are much better than eRoom and Sharepoint. Connectbeam (http://www.connectbeam.com/), OpenTeams (http://www.openteams.com/) and MindQuarry (http://www.mindquarry.com/). There is a great story in Information Weeks June 18th, 2007 Issue. My perspective on each of these to follow.

Wireless Power for Electronic Devices

The final "formal" wire on your electronic device is being targeted for removal. Using magetic resonance, MIT is developing "witricity" -- wireless power delivery. Gone are the days of forgetting to plug your electronic device into it's charger -- just set it down in a room with a witricity charger.

Traveling Tech

My post yesterday made me think about what I do to keep my load lite when I travel...especially internationally

• iGo power supply. The iGo rovides both AC / DC in a single package. The DC plug has both the car and the special airplane adapters included. Using this eliminates need for both an AC and a DC supply. You can have multiple tips, but just have one for my laptop
• USB cables for all other electronic devices. Most devices provide charging through the USB cable. Internationally this means that you need the adapter for the laptop only and then everything else plugs into your laptop
• Universal travel adapter. I found an adapter that works with UK, Europe and Austrulia in a single package at an airport in Oslo. I've now found that this type of adapter has been upgraded to include an option to plug in a USB cable. For example, Kensington has one of these (http://us.kensington.com/html/7207.html).
• Sprint Card for the Laptop.
• Rollup Network and phone cables, I especially like the Belkin network cable that includes adapters for connecting onto or extending other cables.
